Where we came from
Invoice Insight (now Xigo) was born out of the late 90's telecom deregulation. The emergent industry became loosely known as TEM (Telecom Expense Management). The primary focus of businesses like Invoice Insight was to find errors in carrier billings and recover those billing errors on behalf of our customers. In reality, TEM really only made sense for larger companies with lots of fixed and mobile devices. The deployments can be quite complex and time consuming taking as long as a year to realize any savings. The business plans for these companies were largely reactive e.g., looking backwards to what had already happened, and remediating it. Don't get us wrong, it was and still is a good business and we're quite good at it.
However, this legacy business is different today. "Telecom" today is really a proxy term for "network" or in our case the edge of the network. We prefer to think of ourselves as a "cloud based network cost management" provider but a really terrific term for what we are doing now, sadly, has not yet been invented. It's on our to-do list.
Where we are today
Think about the world today. Carriers have made huge improvements in reducing the breadth and complexity of their billing systems (although most remain plenty complex). They've also gotten smarter too – some of it's good for you, some of it quite frankly is self-serving.
On top of that, the edge of the network is the center of business. The days of "cell" phones are long gone.
